Course Description

There are similarities between being an archaeologist and being a detective. Both start with evidence that has been left behind and make deductions based upon reconstruction of clues. Those similarities have been illustrated in detective fiction as authors have chosen to feature archaeologists as characters and detectives. In this course, we will explore three such detective stories written by women authors from very different eras. This class will be part lecture and part discussion group as you discuss the following books that dig for the truth as they dig through the dirt: Agatha Christie, "Murder in Mesopotamia", Elizabeth Peters "Crocodile on the Sandbank", Elly Griffiths "The Crossing Places." All the books are readily available from libraries and stores.
